Scholarships

Scholarships and fellowships are a type of financial aid and help cover the cost of attending college. Unlike loans, they do not have to be repaid. In general, scholarships are awarded to students who meet the criteria of the donor or sponsor. The criteria may require special academic, athletic or artistic talent, or may be awarded based on geographic location, intended field of study, demonstrated financial need, and more. Some scholarships are specifically designed for students transferring to NAU from a community college.

Competition for scholarships can be tough and deadlines are firm. If you know you will need financial assistance for college, take time to research the hundreds of scholarship opportunities using Internet searches, resources at your public library, or by completing an NAU Scholarship Interest Form. This form is not an application; it allows the NAU Office of Student Financial Aid - Scholarship Office to search for scholarships for you. It stays in effect while you are at NAU and can be updated any time.

Some scholarships require a separate application and a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current academic year and may require additional materials such as written statements or letters of recommendation. Please be sure to check online, or with the NAU Office of Student Financial Aid - Scholarship Office, for deadlines and specific information about the scholarships in which you are interested. Check out the NAU Graduate College web page and those of the individual schools and colleges at NAU for more scholarship opportunities.

The following are just a sample of scholarships that focus on Distance Learning students. Applications may be submitted online at www.nau.edu/finaid/Scholarship or may be requested from the NAU Office of Student Financial Aid - Scholarship Office.
