Financial Aid Disbursement
Disbursement is the process of having your financial aid, scholarships, or other
awards pay for your NAU tuition and other university charges. It is handled by
the NAU Office of the Bursar, not the Office of Student
Financial Aid.

Financial aid funds are disbursed at specific times during the year.
Contact the Bursar for the disbursement dates of a specific term.
It is your responsibility to pay for your classes by the term
or session deadline. Once you have enrolled in classes you will need to pay the
difference between your available aid and the amount of tuition/fees you owe.
Tuition waivers, whether full or partial, can only be applied to tuition. Be
sure to pay any university or class fees from out-of-pocket funds, cash
scholarships or other financial aid before disbursement can take place.
Once your NAU charges have been paid, your remaining award funds will be
directly deposited into your checking or savings account. In LOUIE, the
disbursement process is referred to as "refunding" your extra financial aid.
To receive your extra financial aid money as quickly as possible, sign up for
Direct Deposit using forms from the
Office of the Bursar. Direct Deposit authorizations take five days to
activate so submit your request at least a week before disbursement is
scheduled. If you do not use Direct Deposit, your extra financial aid money
will be mailed as a check to your "refund" or "preferred" address listed in
LOUIE. You cannot pick up your check in person.
Financial aid awards are based on the number of units or credit hours you
will take. Changes to your anticipated number of units must be
made in writing prior to the disbursement of your financial aid. Any changes in
units may result in a change to your award amount. If there is a discrepancy
between anticipated hours and the number of hours for which you are enrolled,
your financial aid will not disburse. If your funds are not successfullly
disbursed, your awards may be cancelled and your classes dropped. Once
financial aid has been disbursed, you cannot decrease your anticipated number
of units.
