Dropping a Class

Sometimes it is necessary to change your class schedule by dropping classes. There are several ways you can drop a class. You cannot drop a class just by telling the instructor.

To drop a class in person or by mail , fill out the drop section of the Enroll/Add/Drop Form. Make sure the information on your form is complete. If sending it by mail, postmark it by term deadline for dropping classes. You can also take your form to your local NAU campus office before the term deadline and they will help process your drop.

Dropping classes online is another quick and convenient option. To drop any or all of your classes online, sign on to LOUIE. Select Academics > Enrollment/View My Class Schedule > Select the appropriate term > Go to the bottom of the page > Select Drop/Update Classes. You must drop each class separately. Check to see that the Update Status = Success once you have submitted the drop. If you have any difficulty, contact the Distance Learning Service Center , 1-(800) 426-8315 or (928) 523-4212.

Each term has deadlines for dropping classes . Check the calendar for enrollment and payment deadlines for a specific term. To drop a class after the drop deadline, you will need to fill out additional paperwork, called a Petition to Drop/Withdraw After the Deadline and pay a $25 fee per class. Any drop after the term deadlines will show as a "W" on your transcript. In this case, 'W' stands for Withdrawal. If you have not participated in a class but have not officially dropped it, you will receive a grade of "F" on your transcript. If you are receiving financial aid, dropping a class may jeopardize your eligibility for continued funding. Contact your local NAU campus for policy guidelines and assistance in dropping a class or get help from the Distance Learning Service Center, 1-(800) 426-8315 or (928) 523-4212.
